W.A.V.E. Technology is Wavefront Advanced Vision Enhancement
For the first time, Varilux has adapted the same wavefront technology used in laser surgery (Lasik
surgery) to correct vision by eliminating minor distortions in the lens.
W.A.V.E. Technology uses a patented design process that analyzes a full beam of light as it passes
through each area of the lens. As the light passes through the lens, the light is analyzed to identify
and remove small distortions in each area of the lens. This technology allows Varilux Physio to offer
a progressive lens with the sharpest visual fields possible.
Visual fields are defined as near vision, intermediate vision and distance vision. For more information on visual fields, see the page on 360° Digital Surfacing.
Dr. Marguerite B. McDonald is a cornea/refractive/anterior segment specialist. She conducted the
first wavefront-based surgeries in the U.S.A.
On Varilux Physio lenses with W.A.V.E. Technology, Dr. McDonald states, “When I look at spectacle
trends in the U.S., however, it distresses me to know that a significant percentage of spectacle-lens-
wearing presbyopes currently wear bifocals or trifocals. Additionally, many of those in the U.S. who
wear progressive lenses are in older generation designs that do not deliver the highest available
levels of visual comfort and performance.”
“As doctors, we make evidence-based decisions on our patients’ behalf. What the evidence here tells
me is that we now have a progressive lens technology that offers presbyopes a level of optical
performance that cannot be achieved with conventional progressive lens design.”
Varilux Physio with W.A.V.E. Technology provides unsurpassed sharpness in all fields of vision that
has never before been achieved.
